QUETTA: The police and paramilitary troops were combing a neighborhood of Quetta following a latest spree of violence that targeted senior police officials.
Brigadier Tassawur, a Sector Commander of the Fronts Corps, and DIG Quetta Police on Sunday held a joint press conference, sharing the details of the campaign.
They said the operation is being carried out in the Pashtoon populated areas of Quetta with the help from local elders and lady doctors.
DIG police said an operation in Kallay Deba area of Quetta could not be launched on Saturday due to opposition from residents of the area .
“It is not possible to launch a search operation without participation of community” said he.
He said the details regarding the outcome of the drive would be shared with media once it is completed. The policeman said the operation was expected to be concluded by the sunset.
“We want to provide protection to all areas of Quetta. Coping with terror activities is a challenge,” he said, adding that authorities had plans to launch more operations.
Gunmen on November 15 targeted a vehicle in Nawan Kallay area, killing SP city investigation Muhammad Ilyas, his wife, a son and a grandson.
On November 9, a suicide bomber killed Deputy Inspector Police Motor Transport and Telecommunication Hamid Shakil and three other officers.
