JHANG: Polling for by-elections in PP-78, Jhang commenced today (Thursday) and all the all arrangements in this regard have been finalized.
The seat fell vacant with the disqualification of MPA Rashda Yaqub.
Over 25 candidates including Moulana Masroor Nawaz (Independent), Haji Azad Naser Ansari (PML-N) Shaikh Arfa Majeed (PTI) and Nasim Qadri (PAT) are contesting the elections.
The number of registered voters in the constituency are 216, 562 include 118,687 male and 97,935 female while 171 polling stations and 418 polling booths have been set up.
A fierce electoral contest is expected between PML-N's Haji Azad Naser Ansari and Independent candidate Moulana Masroor Nawaz.
Meanwhile, the district police along with other law enforcing agencies have made tight security arrangements.
A public holiday has been declared in throughout the district on the directions of Election Commission of Pakistan and Punjab Government.
