ISLAMABAD: Former President of Pakistan and current PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari telephoned Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa to convey his warm wishes to the new Chief of Army Staff, after he assumed charge of Pakistan Army on Tuesday.
According to details, Zardari telephoned Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and congratulated him on becoming the 16th Chief Of Army Staff of Pakistan Army. Zardari assured the new COAS that PPP would stand by the army in its fight against terrorism as well as the recent tensions across the Line Of Control.
Zardari also told the army chief that the nation was standing with the military against Indian aggression at the Line of Control.
Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa assumed command of the Pakistan Army on November 29, 2016 after former COAS Gen. Raheel Sharif retired on the same day. After assuming charged, Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa assured the nation that the situation across the Line of Control would return to normal soon.
Zardari, who has been living in a self-imposed exile in Dubai since last year, had claimed in an earlier interview with journalist Hamid Mir that he would return to Pakistan in a few weeks.
