The problem began around 11: 30 a.m. U.K. time
Cloudflare has confirmed that they are facing technical problems that have caused outages across several major platforms, including Elon Musk owned X (formerly Twitter), Open AI.
For context, Cloudflare is an internet infrastructure company that provides performance and security to website owners via its intelligent global network.
This includes provision of tools that offer protection from cyberattacks as well as other tools to make sure websites handle heavy traffic without crashing.
Cloudflare has confirmed the issue, stating, “We are aware of, and investigating an issue which impacts multiple customers: Widespread 500 errors, Cloudflare Dashboard and API is also failing.”
They added, “We are working to understand the full impact and mitigate this problem. More updates to follow shortly.”
The site Downdetector, which detects the outages, was hit itself.
The message on the site read, “Internal server error on Cloudflare’s network. Please try again in a few minutes.”
The Independent reports that the problem began around 11: 30 a.m. U.K. time. Cloudflare updated regarding the issue nearly 15-minutes later.
The issue comes amid scheduled maintenance at ATL (Atlanta) datacenter, LAX (Los Angeles) datacenter, PPT (Tahiti) datacenter and SCL (Santiago) datacenter.
