Kensington Palace issues update as Prince William welcomed in Brazil

The Prince of Wales received a delightful welcome to the vibrant city of Brazil, Rio De Janeiro, as he prepares for a busy week.

Prince William jetted out of the UK on Sunday to arrive in time for the events lined up before Earthshot Prize Award ceremony on November 5 to be held in the city.

Kensington Palace released a special video, highlighting the colourful sites and honouring the local culture. In the accompanying caption, it greeted the nation with “Olá Brasil”.

“Ready for a special few days in Rio for the @EarthshotPrize Awards and the @UnitedforWildlife Summit before the COP30 World Leader’s Summit in Belém. Bora!” it stated.

Prior to the update, William, who will be visiting Brazil for the first time, had also penned a personal message to express his excitement to experience what it had to offer, especially “the warmth of its people”.

The future King is on five-day tour which will see a number of engagements before the main event.

William will get to see some of iconic sites in the city including the Maracana stadium for a Generation Earthshot event with young people from across the region.

The royal, who is an avid Aston Villa fan, will be joined by school children to participate in football drills with former Brazilian defender Marcos Evangelista de Morais (Cafu). The visit will highlight how the inclusive spaces have provided young people from different communities to bring positive change.

At the United for Wildlife Global Summit, William will give a landmark speech with key figures from the private sector, alongside philanthropists as well as indigenous and community leaders in attendance.

On Wednesday , William will spend time meeting the 15 finalists at the famous Christ the Redeemer before attending the Earthshot Prize Assembly.
