A controversial new bronze statue has appeared on the east side of Washing DC’s National Mall, drawing crowds of curious onlookers and heated discussion online.

The artwork depicts two men, resembling former President Donald Trump and the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, holding hands with playful smiles and one leg lifted in a whimsical pose.

Beneath the figures, a plaque reads “We celebrate the long-lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his once closest friend, Jeffrey Epstein.”

According to the National Park Service (NPS), the installation has a temporary permit allowing it to remain on display until Sunday evening.

The anonymous artist behind the piece has not come forward, but many observers note similarities to earlier works mocking Trump. Previous installations included a golden thumb-up crushing the Statue of Liberty’s crown, and a sculpted pile of citation waste placed on a congressional office to “honour” the January 6 rioters.

The Trump – Epstein connection has resurfaced repeatedly over the years, despite Trump’s efforts to down play it. Epstein, convicted of sex trafficking before his death in 2019, was once seen alongside the president at social gatherings.

While Trump has insisted, he distanced himself from Epstein decades ago, letters and guest lists have kept their ties in the public eye.

Adding to the controversy, the statue features excerpts said to be from a letter allegedly written by Trump for Epstein’s 50th birthday.

One plaque quotes a drawing of a nude woman’s torso with the words “Enigmas never age.” Another panel declares “Friendship Month,” with two hands forming a heart.

The White House quickly issued a response condemning the installation. In a statement, officials said: “Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit. It’s not new that Epstein knew Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep.”

As callers stop to take prints, the temporary monument has formerly again placed the Trump – Epstein story in the limelight showing how undetermined difficulties continue to follow both men long after Epstein’s death and Trump’s administration.
