US team briefed on quake relief efforts

US team briefed on quake relief efforts
ISLAMABAD: An eight-member delegation of US senators and young political leaders led by Senator Brian A Joyce met Maj-Gen Farooq Ahmed Khan here on Thursday. They were briefed on how the world community at large and especially the US made significant contributions to managing the gigantic rescue and relief efforts following the Oct 8 earthquake. Maj-Gen Khan said US pilots flew over 5,000 relief sorties with over 15,000 tonnes of relief goods while US doctors treated over 30,000 patients and vaccinated over 20,000 earthquake victims. He appreciated the donation of MASH, dumpers and generators along with two portable forward-area refueling point systems. A video of the earthquake tragedy was shown to make the delegation understand the scale of the tragedy.
