13 al-Qaeda, TTP terrorists killed in Karachi shootout

KARACHI: A police team of District Malir on Monday evening killed 13 members of Al-Qaeda and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a shootout in Sohrab Goth.
On the other hand, the police claimed to have arrested a would-be suicide bomber with a jacket and recovered a huge cache of weapons and explosives from terrorists. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Mohammed Anwar of District Malir said an investigation into terrorism cases and the presence of terrorists in the district was underway.
On a tip-off about the presence of TTP commander Khan Zaman Mehsud and his associates in Sohrab Goth, police took action in the Delux Town bungalows.The SSP led the raiding team, which comprised SHO Ismail Lashari and others. Seeing the police, the accused opened fire which was retaliated.
The police after a brief shootout said they managed to apprehend 13 members of the banned outfit in injured condition who later died while their commander Khan Zaman Mehsud with some of his aides fled under the cover of fire.
During the search of their hideout, the police recovered three Kalashnikovs, four TT pistols, two repeater rifles, one sniper rifle, three 9mm pistols, five kilograms of explosives, 10 kilograms of ball bearings and hundreds of bullets from their possession.
SSP Anwar said the police arrested a suicide bomber who was wearing a suicide jacket and had failed to explode himself. They defused the suicide jacket and shifted the bomber to the investigation unit.
The SSP said four of the 13 killed terrorists were wearing police uniforms. He said two of the terrorists were members of Al-Qaeda while the others were members of the TTP. Two terrorists were identified as Abdullah Mehsud of the TTP and Imran Behari of Al-Qaeda. They were involved in terrorism activities in Karachi, including the killing of policemen. A further investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Pakistan Rangers Sindh during their targeted raids in the

outskirts of the city have arrested 11 members of the TTP with weapons.A spokesman for the Rangers Sindh said an intelligence-driven targeted raid in Baldia and the Gulshan-e-Buner area was carried out.
Seeing the Rangers, the accused opened fire which was retaliated and an encounter took place. After a brief shootout, the Rangers managed to apprehend eight members of the TTP. During a search of their hideout, a huge quantity of explosives and weapons was recovered.
In a separate case, personnel of the Pakistan Rangers conducted a series of targeted raids in the Rasheedabad and Janjal Goth areas. Three terrorists of TTP along with weapons were arrested. Further investigations are under way.
