20 militants killed in Tirah air strikes

BARA: Twenty militants, including an important commander, were killed when the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) jet fighters blitzed their hideouts in the Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency, official sources said on Thursday.
The sources said the jet fighters targeted the hideouts of two banned militant organisations, Lashkar-e-Islam (LI)-led by Mangal Bagh and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP-Tariq group), in different areas of Tirah valley.
They said at least 20 suspected militants were killed and several others were injured in the bombardment.Security officials said the jetfighters pounded suspected positions of militants in Akakhel, Sepah and Kukikhel areas in Tirah valley of the troubled Khyber Agency and inflicted losses on the militants there.
After clearing major areas in Bara tehsil, including Khajuri, Akakhel, Shalobar, Malikdinkhel, Kamarkhel, Qambarkhel and Sepah of the militants, security forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with militants in Tirah Valley, close to the Orakzai and Kurram agencies boundaries, for the past one month, tribal and official sources said.
Security forces have intensified the operation against the militants after the killing of schoolchildren of the Army Public School in an attack.Also, security forces claimed at least 100 militants had been killed and several others injured during the three-day aerial bombardment in Khyber Agency.
Our Khar correspondent adds: Three personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) were killed in a remote controlled bomb blast in the Mamond Tehsil of Bajaur Agency, official sources said on Thursday.
They said that militants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on roadside in the Damadola area in Mamond Tehsil. They said the militants targeted the personnel of FC when they were returning after performing duty at a checkpoint.
As a result, the sources said, three personnel Hanif, Awal Khan and Gul Said were killed on the spot.Security forces cordoned off the area after the bomb blast

and started a search operation.Meanwhile, the proscribed TTP claimed responsibility for the attack.
APP adds from Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the attack on security forces in Bajaur Agency. The prime minister in a message said the terrorists were on the run and taking action out of sheer frustration. “Their end is not far,” he added.
