CID arrests ‘Al-Qaeda Subcontinent chief’

KARACHI: The Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the CID Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested the Karachi Ameer of Al-Qaeda Subcontinent, along with his four accomplices, and recovered explosives and weapons from their possession.
The Acting DIG of the CID Police, Saqib Ismail Memon, told The News that the AEC of the CID Police on a tip-off raided a hideout of the suspected militants near the Old Haji Camp in the Napier police limits and arrested five militants.
“The arrested persons are affiliated with the al-Qaeda Sub-Continent, which was behind the attack on the PNS Dockyard on the night between September 6-7, 2014,” he claimed.SSP Memon said one of the persons arrested by the CID, Qari Shahid Usman, was the Karachi Ameer of the group and added that the others rounded up by the law enforcing agency were identified as Asad Khan, Fawad Khan, Shahid Ansari and Usman alias Islam.
Commenting on the activities of arrested militants, he claimed that the arrested militants were involved in the planning and execution of the PNS Dockyard attack and further claimed that the militants had planned to attack India by hijacking a battleship of Pakistan Navy to ignite a war between the two nuclear armed countries.
The CID recovered 10 kilograms of explosives, two 222 rifles, three pistols and other illegal equipment from the possession of arrested militants, SSP Saqib Memon said and added that they were being interrogated.
