The sources said at least 60 militants stormed the security forces’ checkpost in Spin Qabar early in the day.
The security forces, the sources said, repulsed the attack and killed 17 militants affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The bodies of the militants were taken into custody by the security forces and handed over to the political administration.
The sources added that two of the slain militants were identified as Zeeshan and Abdur Rehman, both residents of Swabi district.
All the slain militants who had been killed in the attack were buried at the premises of the Levies centre in Shahkas.
About a hundred militants have been killed after the security forces launched the Operation Khyber-1 against the Mangal Bagh-led LI and TTP in Bara tehsil in Khyber Agency.
