Six militants killed in Tirah bombing

BARA: Six suspected militants were killed and 10 others injured when jet fighters pounded Akakhel and Sepah areas of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, official sources said on Friday.
The sources said the jet fighters targeted hideouts of the militants affiliated with the Mangal Bagh-led Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) group and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).They said up to six suspected militants were killed and 10 others wounded while two of their hideouts were also destroyed in the action. The sources said three among the injured were stated to be in critical condition and were taken away by their accomplices to an undisclosed location.
The sources said tanks and heavy artillery were used to target the hideouts of the militants. The causalities suffered by the militants couldn’t be verified independently.Security forces launched the Operation Khyber-1 against the militants of Lashkar-e-Islam and the TTP in the Khyber Agency on September 16.
Shakirullah Khan adds from Ghallanai: Seven persons, including two members of the anti-militant peace committee, were killed and three others sustained injuries in two roadside blasts in Safi Tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Friday, official sources said.
The TTP Jamaatul Ahrar spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan claimed responsibility for the attacks.Sources said the members of the peace committee were patrolling the Chinari area when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the road. Two peace committee members identified as Musawir and Nazeer were killed on the spot.
In the meantime, a passenger van hit another explosive device in which four persons including the driver, Ali Muhammad, Akhtar Gul, Qahar and Wilayat were killed on the spot. One of the injured, Mutabar succumbed to his injuries at the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Ghallanai.Two other persons Nawaz and Aqeel Said, who were wounded in the blast, are under treatment at the hospital.
