15 militants killed in NWA air strikes

MIRANSHAH: Fifteen militants were killed when the Pakistan Air Force jet fighters pounded their hideouts in the North Waziristan Agency’s Shawal area on Sunday, a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
“In precise aerial strikes last night (Saturday), five terrorist hideouts were destroyed and 15 terrorists, including foreigners, were killed,” it said.The identity of those killed wasn’t disclosed. This piece of information couldn’t be confirmed from independent sources.
Air strikes are a major component of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb that was launched against local and foreign militants in North Waziristan on June 15.Our Jamrud correspondent adds: Security forces claimed to have killed six militants after repulsing an attackon a checkpost in the Jamrud Tehsil in Khyber Agency.
Sources said six militants attacked the checkpost of the Frontier Corps (FC) in the Ghundi area of Jamrud Tehsil.“The soldiers manning the check post repulsed the attack and killed six attackers in retaliatory fire,” official sources said.
The political administration took the bodies into custody and shifted them to the Civil Hospital Jamrud for identification.The sources said the militants were non-locals. Security forces cordoned off the area after the attack and launched a search operation. However, no arrest could be made.The political administration has started an investigation to ascertain the identities and affiliation of the attackers.
