September 8, 2014

ISLAMABAD: The building of Geo News once again came under attack from activists of the PAT and PTI on Sunday night when the staff of Geo, Jang and The News were busy in their work.
The law enforcing agencies, who have already surrendered before the rioters of PAT and PTI, failed to provide protection to journalists and the Geo/Jang building. The aggressive mob of PTI and PAT pelted stones on the building, smashing the windows of the offices.
The attackers have struck at least 20 times during the last one week at the Geo/Jang building at Fazl-e-Haq Road and pelted stones, broken windows and damaged vehicles parked in the parking lot of the Geo plaza and other properties.
On Sunday night, the violent group of protesters gathered around Geo Plaza and stormed into the premises of the Geo/Jang/The News building. The rioters pelted stones at the building and broke the windscreens of the vehicles of the staff members. The attackers broke down the concrete security wall of the building and entered into the premises.
Since the sit-in of the PTI started, the staff of Geo has come under attack many times. A woman reporter, Farhat Javed, covering the dharna was attacked with empty bottles and other staff was also harassed. The mike of a Geo reporter was snatched in the dharna and other staff members were also teased and harassed. The daily harassment has greatly perturbed the Geo staff members who are compelled to perform their duties in an atmosphere of fear.
President PFUJ Afzal Butt condemned the incident and said if the police failed to provide security, then journalists will protect their colleagues. He said all journalists stand united to protect their colleagues. He said given Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri were seeking an apology from the police and the government for the mistreatment of their workers, the journalists also have a right to seek an apology from Imran Khan and Dr Qadri for the attack on the Geo News office and the harassment of

journalists, workers and staff members of Geo News, The News and Jang.
“We will not allow anyone to attack the journalists who are performing their professional duties,” he warned.Leader of Council of Press Clubs Associations Arshad Ansari also condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with the Geo employees. Secretary National Press Club (NPC) Tariq Chaudhry also condemned the attack on the Geo office and said the press club stands with the workers and staff members of Geo at this time.
