NWA IDPs stage protest against poor arrangements

BANNU: The internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency staged a protest here Tuesday against the government for not facilitating them properly.
Hundreds of IDPs took out protest procession and blocked Bannu-Kohat Road for several hours.The enraged protesters also threw stones at the vehicle of Commissioner Bannu Syed Mohsin Shah, who has been appointed as the focal person for the IDPs. It prompted the police to fire tear-gas shells to disperse the protesters.
Speaking on the occasion, the representatives of the displaced people said there were no proper arrangements for provision of ration and financial assistance at the distribution point set up by the district administration in Bannu.
“We are being humiliated and treated like beasts. We are being forced to run from pillar to post in the scorching heat,” said one of the protestors.
MNA from North Waziristan Muhammad Nazeer Khan also joined the protest. He made it clear that they would not end the protest until the administration gives an assurance to solve the problems of the people displaced by the military operation in North Waziristan.
Later, MNA Muhammad Nazeer Khan, PML-N NWA president Nazar Din Khan, Qaumi Watan Party NWA chairman Malik Akbar Khan and other tribal elders held a meeting with the commissioner Bannu at his office.
The commissioner assured them that the government would leave no stone unturned in resolving the problems of the IDPs.Meanwhile, residents of Khwajari, Bannu led by their chief Malik Sheroz Khan set up a relief camp near Lakki Gate in Bannu where the IDPs were being served with cold drinks, juices, food and other beverages.He asked the people of Bannu district to come forward and help the helpless tribespeople generously and wholeheartedly.
