Political leadership assures armed forces of rock solid support

ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE/ KARACHI: Joining their forces in the greater national interest, the country’s political leadership Monday assured the armed forces of their rock-solid support in their operation against the Taliban militants and insurgents holed up in the troubled North Waziristan Agency (NWA).
Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Monday extended full support to the military operation against terrorists in North Waziristan and appealed to the nation to stand solidly behind their soldiers.
“This is the time to save our country and our people from destruction at the hands of beasts who have already taken over 50,000 lives of our people, injured and ravaged many more lives.”
“To save our future generations from the monster of terrorism and extremism, we need to unite and decisively target those who mow down innocent people and wish to impose their nefarious agendas on this great nation,” Bilawal Bhutto said while supporting Zarb-e-Azb military operation against the Taliban terrorists.
Pledging full support to the operation, former interior minister and PPP leader Rehman Malik Monday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to convene an all-party conference (APC).
Interacting with reporters in Islamabad, Malik said the PPP had rendered huge sacrifices in the war against terrorism and that his party fully backed ‘Zarb-e-Azb’ operation in North Waziristan Agency.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain said the prime minister should have taken the nation into confidence before launching the operation.
“Mian Nawaz Sharif is the constitutional head of this independent state. It was his responsibility to address the nation through the electronic media before launching the operation and tell them that the government had taken the decision to launch the operation. He should tell the nation that the growing and brazen attacks of terrorists had become intolerable. That’s why he has ordered the army to initiate operation

in Waziristan,” Hussain said.
“I have received people’s views on the launch of the operation. Majority of the people have expressed their support for the operation and the army and are ready to sacrifice their lives for the nation.
They have expressed their views through faxes, telex, emails, tweets, phones, and Facebook comments. They said they would not leave army alone in this difficult time.”
The Sindh Assembly Monday unanimously adopted two resolutions, moved by the house’s treasury benches, lending full support of lawmakers of provincial legislature to the military operation.
The resolutions were moved separately by Sindh Parliamentary Affairs and Environment Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro and Irum Azeem Farooque, MPA of Muttahida Qaumi Movement.Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Monday submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly in favour of Operation Zarbe-e-Azb. The resolution was moved by PPP MPA Faiza Malik.
It was stated in the resolution that every single person of the nation stands with the army in their war against terrorism.Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said elimination of terrorism was imperative to secure the future of Pakistan as well as to maintain peace in the society.
Presiding over a high level meeting here on Monday, especially attended by Corps Commander Lahore Lt. General Naveed Zaman, he said time had come to get rid of terrorism and the whole nation was united and standing by their armed forces to foil the nefarious designs of anti-Pakistan elements.Leader of Awami National Party Ameer Haider Khan Hoti Monday said his party will support the government’s decision of operation against the terrorists.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said: “We are with the government on the issue of country’s security and defense.” He urged the whole nation to support the government and armed forces in war against terrorism. Hoti asked the government to allocate sufficient funds for internally displaced person (IDPs).
Pakistan Muslim League (PML) announced full support to the armed forces, saying the entire nation stands by the army against terrorism and is praying for its success.Spokesperson for Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Jan Achakzai, said the operation will not end terrorism in the country unless a clear policy against militancy was adopted.
In a statement, he said if the operation had limited aim to target certain militants while leaving other groups who are operating and sustaining militancy infrastructure of terrorism in the country intact, the issue will not be resolved.
Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo emphasized the need to strengthen inter-provincial harmony to get rid of terrorism. “We all should come forward to combat terrorism for a strengthened democracy.”
