Pro-army rallies held

KARACHI: The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) on Friday demonstrated in support of the army.A demonstration was held in front of New Memon mosque in Bolton market against Geo/Jang Group. Addressing the protesters, SIC Deputy Secretary General Tariq Mahboob termed Geo and Jang Group agent of Hindus, Israelis and American imperialist forces.
He warned the administration of Geo and Jang to seek unconditional apology otherwise they will have to face dire consequences. He said that copies of Daily Jang newspaper will be burnt at every nook and corner of the country.
On the occasion the protesters shouted slogans against Geo/Jang Group. They were also holding placards inscribed with slogans in favour on army and against Geo/Jang Group.Separately, Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) staged a sit-in in front of the offices of Geo/Jang Group on Friday evening in favour of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The sit-in was against Hamid Mir family’s allegation in which they had held the ISI chief and some other officials responsible for bid on his life. The activists and workers of MQM-H were shouting slogans against the Geo/Jang Group.
The sit-in at II Chundrigar Road during peak hours created gridlock, causing immense problems to commuters, and the vehicular traffic were forced to divert to narrow lanes opposite the Jang Building.
Carrying banners and placards inscribed with “No to Geo and Jang”, the protestors demanded banning of Geo TV channel. Standing under an umbrella with a cross on Geo Logo, protesters were shouting slogans: “Stop character assassination of Pakistan Army and intelligence agencies.”
Aftab Hasan, spokesman of the party, said that administration of Geo/Jang Group tried to pacify the situation but we refused to hold dialogue as we believe that hate speech against any state institution is not acceptable.
He also said that his party has announced boycott of the Geo/Jang Group.Party chief Afaq Ahmed’s message was also read out

which said that the MQM-H believed in peaceful co-existence and we want peace not war.
Later, after an hour, the protesters dispersed.In Islamabad, traders and industrialists, meanwhile, staged a demonstration outside the National Press Club to express support to the army and the ISI.
The demonstration was led by FPCCI vice president Munawar Mughal, SVP Khalid Chaudhry, and trade leaders, including Ijaz Abbasi, Sarfaraz Mughal, Khalid Mian, Musharraf Janjua, Nadeem Syed and Tahir Abbasi.
A large number of people from all walks of life also participated in the demonstration and chanted slogan in favour of the army and ISI. They also raised slogans against the elements trying to defame national institutions. Many participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans in favour of the national institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the business community condemned false allegations against the army and ISI, saying that such campaigns would hurt the morale of the defence forces protecting the country.
They said that they have full faith in capabilities of the army and ISI which has defended the motherland by giving supreme sacrifices.
Business community and the whole nation stood united with the army at the current juncture, they said, adding that assault on the army amounts to an attack on Pakistan which will never be allowed.
They said it was a duty of every patriotic Pakistani to raise a voice in favour of the guardians of the country’s ideological and geographical frontiers and they would continue to do the same without giving any consideration to negative propaganda.
In Lahore, meanwhile, the Insaf Students Federation (ISF) – student wing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – organised a protest against the Geo/Jang Group.
The demonstration was held outside the Lahore Press Club in which the participants carrying banners and placards chanted slogans and expressed solidarity with PTI chief Imran Khan. The ISF office-bearers, including Waqas Iftikhar and others, also spoke on the occasion and condemned “character assassination” of Pakistan Army and Imran Khan by the Geo/Jang Group.
Separately, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (Niazi) demonstrated outside the Lahore Press Club to condemn alleged conspiracies to malign the Pakistan army and weaken national defence.
Led by Dr Amjad Hussain Chishti, Pir Akhtar Rasool Qadri, Mufti Ashiq Hussain and other leaders, JUP workers raised slogans against the ‘conspiracies to undermine Pakistan’s defence’.
They were also holding banners and placards, warning the nation against the enemies of Pakistan and their ugly conspiracies to weaken the national defence.
Addressing the workers, the leaders warned that certain elements in the country were conspiring with the enemies on the eastern and western borders to undermine the national defence at a time when US forces were retreating from Afghanistan after a 12-year military campaign.
In Peshawar, the workers and activists of Amn Committee staged protest in support of Pakistan Army and the ISI.
Led by Allama Muhammad Shoaib the workers of Amn Committee Bainul Mazahib staged protest near the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans in favour of the army and ISI.Speaking on the occasion, the speakers said that they would stand by the armed forces through thick and thin and would not allow the foreign elements to succeed in their nefarious designs.
