PESHAWAR: There was still no word about the fate and the bodies of the 23 Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers who were in the custody of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants of Mohmand Agency since June 2010 and were reportedly executed by the latter.

The FC authorities in Ghallanai, headquarters of Mohmand Agency, didn’t confirm the news of the imprisoned soldiers’ death as they had not yet found the bodies or received any information about their fate. However, they provided the names of 33 FC soldiers who went missing in June 2010 after an attack by the militants on the Shonkrai Post on the border between Mohmand Agency and Afghanistan. It was unclear as to what happened to the remaining 10 FC soldiers if 23 of them had indeed been shot dead by the TTP as claimed by its Mohmand Agency head Omar Khalid Khurasani, whose real name is Abdul Wali and is residing in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar and Kunar provinces after facing defeat at the hands of Pakistan’s security forces.

Relatives of the missing soldiers had reached the Mohmand Rifles headquarters of the FC in Ghallanai town on Monday morning after hearing about the news of the killing of their loved news last night. They were in miserable condition as the FC authorities were unable to provide any precise information. They had come from Khyber Agency, Orakzai Agency, Mardan, Charsadda and other places. They had in the past been pleading with the FC authorities to help recover their sons and brothers and had on occasions also met journalists to highlight their cause.Maj Gen Ghayoor Mahmood, the IGFC, had also reached Mohmand Agency from his base in Peshawar on Monday.
