ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan will make an important announcement in the National Assembly today (Friday) where he will conclude the ongoing debate on the drone attacks and assassination of the TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud.
It will be the fifth day of the debate and 40 members have so far taken part in it. Chaudhry Nisar initiated the debate on Monday last after suspending the regular business and agenda. It is likely that the minister will take parliament into confidence on the government’s position on dialogue process with the Taliban after the hostile announcement made by its new leadership for not having a dialogue with the government.
Chaudhry Nisar had an important meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday and had exchange of views about the trends in the House on the subject of a dialogue with the Taliban.
The prime minister had reportedly given the interior minister a green signal for the dialogue with the Taliban in the interest of peace in the region.Well-placed sources told The News that the government intends to restore contacts with the new Taliban leaders immediately for the sake of peace. In case these efforts don’t bear fruit, the law enforcement agencies would be compelled to take on the extremists. The ultimate decision would be taken after careful study of all aspects. Chaudhry Nisar will have detailed discussion with the leaders of various parliamentary groups in the National Assembly to brief them about the latest developments, the sources said.
According to the interior minister, Army has halted its routine movement in the tribal areas so that Taliban should not view it as any preparation for military operation in the area. The information about halting the movement was given to Chaudhry Nisar by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani during the initial efforts made by the minister for having dialogue with the Taliban. Chaudhry Nisar has conveyed to the Taliban his message

to desist from any terror activity just to save the atmosphere for facilitating communication between the two sides, the sources said.
