QUETTA: An alleged suicide bomber was shot dead by residents of Hazara Town when the bomber attempted to enter the locality in the outskirts of the provincial capital on Saturday evening.
Confirming the incident, Capital City Police Officer Quetta Mir Zubair Mehmood said that a pedestrian suicide bomber was killed by residents of Hazara Town on the same evening. The evidence proved that the person who was killed in the firing was a suicide bomber, he added.
Officials of the police said that the suicide bomber, wearing a suicide jacket, entered Hazara Town minutes before Iftar. However, the residents of the area became suspicious and tried to stop him.
During the exchange of fire between the bomber and the residents of the area, the unidentified bomber sustained bullets wounds and died on the spot.
Soon after the incident, the personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC), police and other law enforcement agencies reached the spot and cordoned off the area, as officials of the bomb disposal squad defused the jacket attached to his body. Police said that the suicide bomber received one bullet in his head and died on the spot.
The officials of the bomb disposal squad defused the suicide jacket and recovered ball bearings in a huge quantity. According to the officials of the bomb disposal squad, ten kilograms of high powered explosive material and ball bearings were fixed in the suicide jacket.
The body of the deceased was removed to the morgue of a local hospital for identification. Further investigations are in progress.

Meanwhile, the Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) expressed surprise over the entry

of suicide attackers in Aliabad Hazara town and said that there are several checkposts and nakas in the area. Despite these, his entry reflects the faulty security arrangements of the law enforcers.
Provincial Secretary Information Tehreek Nifaz-e-Fiqh-e- Jafaria Tariq Ahmed Jafri said entry into Hazara town is like entry into another country. Despite such security, the entry of a suicide bomber is the complete failure of the FC, police and intelligence agencies and a sign of their helplessness before terrorists.
He appealed to United Nations to ensure people’s security.
