KARACHI: A low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED) went off in the remit of the Boat Basin police station on Saturday night, police said.
No one was injured in the incident. The incident took place late on Saturday night at an Office of the Zulfiqarabad Authority Project in Boat Basin in the Clifton area. SSP of District South, Nasir Aftab, said that the bomb exploded within the greenbelt of the service lane of the Zulfiqarabad office.
It is suspected that the targets of the terrorist activity were some Chinese engineers working at a project in Boat Basin. SSP Nasir Aftab said that some Chinese engineers used to travel past where the explosion took place, and it seemed that the terrorists might have attempted to target the engineers. However, the police were investigating the matter. The police official said that it was a time-bomb device which contained half-a-kilogram of explosives. It may be mentioned here that a similar attempt was foiled in May 21 when an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted to target Chinese engineers and the law-enforcers. The attempt had failed when only the IED’s detonator had exploded. The previous incident had also taken place in the Boat Basin police remit.
