ISLAMABAD: Compelling media reports, coupled with a persuasive presentation on implications of the caretaker government’s decision to dismantle the Prime Minister’s Polio Monitoring and Coordination Cell, have convinced the caretaker government to order restoration of the cell.
An official press release issued here on Sunday states: “Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has taken notice of reports in the media regarding closure of the Polio Cell in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
Reiterating his commitment to polio eradication, the prime minister has reviewed his decision after a presentation made by Dr. Sania Nishtar about the implications of such a move on the national polio eradication efforts. The prime minister has directed relevant authorities that necessary administrative directions be issued to restore the status of the Polio Cell to the status before his government took office. The prime minister affirmed that the health of our children is very close to his heart, and that high level commitment is necessary to eradicate the paralysing disease from this country.”
It is learnt that Dr. Sania Nishtar’s presentation was preceded by a letter, which she wrote to the PM, requesting him to reconsider the dissolution of the PM’s Polio Cell and to retain it in the Prime Minister’s Office.
