May 19, 2013

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan nominated the party’s provincial chapter president Asad Qaiser for the office of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly speaker on Saturday.
The party has already picked Pervez Khattak, central secretary general, as the next PTI chief minister in the province, a decision that had dejected Qaiser.
Qaiser had a feeling of being letdown by the party leadership after serving the party for 17 years.
However, the PTI leadership won him over and is going to make him speaker of the provincial assembly.
According PTI media cell, the decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Imran Khan at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital in Lahore.
The injured party chief had been holding party meetings at the hospital after he fell off a lift during election campaign. The PTI leaders from KP shuttle between Peshawar and Lahore to get guidelines and approvals from him. Imran Khan is handling the process of the formation of his party’s first ever government in any federating unit of Pakistan.
The Saturday meeting was also attended by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Omar, Chief Minister-designate Pervez Khattak and other local leaders of KP chapter.
PTI is going to form a coalition government with Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Jamhoori Ittehad Pakistan (AJIP). The coalition has met the required number of seats for forming government in the province, humbling the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s Fazl-ur-Rahman who attempted to constitute government with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz. Under the agreement, QWP and JI would get three ministries each and AJIP is expected to be given one. The QWP and JI would get one senior ministry each in the next setup.
PTI position in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly further strengthened on Saturday as two more independent MPAs-elect joined the party. Farid Khan from Hangu and Shah Muhammad Khan from Bannu met Pervez Khattak and announced joining

the PTI.
Abdul Haq, an MPA from Kohistan district, has joined the party on Friday. The new joining will take the number of MPAs in the 124-member Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to 67, according to PTI.
Talking on the occasion of joining, the designated Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervaiz Khan Khattak, assured the PTI would introduce a new system of good governance where the people’s opinion would be honoured and corruption-free society established in the province, ensuring justice in accordance with the PTI manifesto.
Khattak said the PTI government would not disappoint the people. He said the people had reposed trust in the PTI and they would soon see positive changes.
He reiterated the warning that his government would not tolerate corruption at any cost and under any circumstances.
Asad Qaiser, who is also the current provincial president of the party, said Tehreek-e-Insaf would soon decide about the cabinet. Several MPAs-elect from PTI are trying to secure seat in the cabinet but the party has not made public any of the names of the likely ministers.
