PPP finally accepts defeat

May 14, 2013

ISLAMABAD: Breaking its intriguing silence the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Monday accepted the verdict of the people as expressed by them through the May 11 vote.
“Although the party has serious reservations about the fairness of the polls it has accepted the results in the larger interest of political stability, democracy and the welfare of the people of Pakistan,” said PPPP president Makhdoom Amin Fahim in a statement issued on Monday.
Though the PPP took two days to accept the results yet so far only former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani accepted the responsibility of humiliating defeat in the general elections.
In the meanwhile, PPPP President Makhdoom Amin Fahim said that denial of level playing field to it and other democratic parties by the militants on the one hand and the gerrymandering in a number of constituencies on the other has eroded the credibility of fair and free elections. “The party also deplores that its protests on this count were heeded neither by the Election Commission of Pakistan nor by the caretaker government,” he said.
Makhdoom Amin Fahim called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan to look into all the complaints the party has lodged with it and redress the same in accordance with the law.
