Two killed in NWA drone strike

MIRANSHAH: A US drone on Sunday fired two missiles and hit a motorcycle in the volatile North Waziristan tribal region, killing two suspected militants.
Residents and official sources said the two men were coming to Dattakhel village from the Afghan border when they came under the drone attack at Muhammad Khel village, 65 kilometres west of Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan.
There was no immediate information about identity of the two men but official sources said there were strong indications that both were foreign fighters.
They said Dattakhel and its adjoining villages near the Afghan border are considered to be strongholds of Pakistani and foreign militants affiliated with al-Qaeda. It was first US drone strike in the tribal areas along the Afghan border in March. Tribal sources said foreign militants killed in drone strikes are usually secretly buried.
Most of the militants, they said, are now using motorcycles for travelling in the tribal regions instead of cars and pickup trucks to minimise human losses in case of drone strikes.
Meanwhile, the local administration clamped curfew in the entire tribal region on Sunday due to movement of the security forces. All roads, markets and shops remained close due to the daylong curfew in the tribal region.
Also, the body of a soldier was recovered on the roadside in Khaisor village in Mir Ali tehsil. Sources said the soldier was kidnapped by unknown persons a few days ago.
