ISLAMABAD: Pakistan warned India on Monday against recurrence of unprovoked attacks on the Line of Control (LoC) that led to the killing of a soldier and injuries to others on Sunday.

“The Indian government was strongly urged to take appropriate measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in future,” said the Foreign Office spokesman in a statement.

The statement said Deputy High Commissioner of India Gopal Bagal was called to the Foreign Office on Monday and handed a protest note on the unprovoked Indian attack on a Pakistani post in Hajipir sector on January 6, resulting in the martyrdom of a Pakistani soldier and injuries to others.

According to the ISPR, Naik Aslam was killed and two others were injured while successfully repulsing the attack. Aslam belonged to Khairpur village of Chakwal district where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. The Indian troops crossed the LoC and ‘physically raided a checkpost at Sawan Patra’, said the ISPR.

“The Pakistan Army troops effectively responded to the attack. One Pakistani soldier embraced martyrdom,” it said. The Indian troops retreated, leaving behind a gun and a dagger, and an exchange of fire was continuing, it said. India has denied its soldiers had attacked a Pakistani post though over the years exchange of fire on the LoC, killing and injuring soldiers, is a common occurrence.
