After IO, DIG CTD fails to appear in court

December 8, 2015

Karachi
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday issued a show cause notice to the DIG of the Sindh police's Counter-Terrorism Department over his failure to implement court orders and ensure the appearance of an investigation Officer (IO), Inspector Shabbir Hussain, before the bench.
The court, which was hearing cases against two alleged members of a banned outfit Ma’aza Khan and Banaras - accused of explosives possession, attempted murder and involvement in police encounters, had passed an order to the IO to appear as witness.
Despite the passage of two months, the IO was yet to appear in court and finally the DIG CTD was directed to ensure his presence. However, yesterday, the DIG himself failed to attend the hearing and was yet to initiate action against the IO either. The court has directed the DIG to appear on December 9.
NAB court
A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court has fixed December 10 as the next hearing date to hear a prosecution witness, Niaz Ali, in the corruption cases against OGDCL officers Hussain Bukhsh Narejo, Abdul Lateef, Shafiq Ahmed and Qalbe Abbas. The officers are accused of misappropriating more than Rs180 million from the ‘Tando Adam Gas Field’ project.
