Karachi: Submitting an application seeking Khula, Sindh Women Development Minister Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani told the court on Tuesday that she’d rather die than live with a cruel husband.
Civil Judge (South) Aliya Malik directed the minister’s husband Saadat Ali Yaseen to appear before the court and submit his comments. Rubina, who also holds the portfolio of social welfare and special education, disclosed in her application that she had never displeased her husband or in-laws, adding that she alone had undertaken the responsibility of their three children’s upbringing. She said she was mentally and physically abused by her husband, adding that he never paid her the haq mehr of Rs5,500 decided at the time of marriage. The minister said that it was she who always bore all the expenses of health care and education of the children, adding that their father never spent a single paisa on their education and development.
She submitted that her parents had provided her husband with a hefty dowry at the time of marriage, but she was now so sick and tired living with her husband that she wanted to give up the dowry and haq mehr. She said her only desire was to end the marriage. Rubina said her husband had refused to divorce her and threatened her with dire consequences if she tried to leave him. After hearing the minister’s application, Judge Aliya issued a summons to her husband to appear before the court and submit his statement.
