‘Waar wins war of Indian cultural supremacy for Pakistan’

The most anticipated Pakistani blockbuster Waar has won the war of Indian cultural supremacy for Pakistan and has also proved to be the beginning of a new era of filmmaking initiated by the highly talented young movie makers of Pakistan.
This was the general consensus and the crux of the comments made by the Pakistan film industry’s bigwigs and the selected show biz personalities at the get-together hosted by the distributors, makers and cast of the highly successful Pakistani flick ‘Waar on Thursday evening.
The producer and writer of ‘Waar’, Dr.Hassan Waqas Rana, told the gathering that the journey of Waar started some four years back. It was a dream, a dream of a man who wanted to do something for his country and found movie-making the best medium to make the dream a reality.
Dr.Hassan revealed that he had no prior knowledge or expertise about films since he was a political economist by profession. However, he added, the passion and craving to do something for Pakistan forced him to write the script .He said he then contacted Bilal Lashari, the young film director, through his father Kamran Lashari (a senior bureaucrat and now an actor).
Hassan said that he had a long meeting with Bilal and told him that it was not just ‘a movie’ but a great cause for him. Then he approached Shaan Shahid.
He said Riaz Shahid, the great moviemaker and Shaan’s illustrated father was his hero and legacy of Riaz Shahid was completed by his son Shaan by outshining the bet Indian movie stars.
Bilal Lashari, the young director of, “said that first time some 10 years back when he broke the news to his parents about his passion for movie making, they were a bit worried. However, his father Kamran Lashari advised him: “If you are going to do it, o it the right way, since there is no shortcuts to hard work”. “My parents are my motivation and I try my best to make them proud”.
He paid tributes to Dr.Hassan, the producer, and said that he had given him an opportunity and the success which followed was all because of Dr.Hassan’s great initiative for Pakistan.
Shaan Shahid started his speech with the golden words of Dr. Martin Luther King ‘I have a dream’ and said that Dr.King had a dream but today Waar had made that dream come true, the dream of making Pakistan proud of her own product. He said that he was proud of being the son of Riaz Shahid and Madam Nilo.
He was visibly pleased over the great gathering on this occasion which had brought the two worlds of the film industry together under one roof i.e. the great filmmakers of the old generation and the young film makers.
He emphasized on the need to continue this forum, this collaboration of the old and the new and never let it stop since it is the beginning of a new era for the entire film industry and the country.
Shaan also emphasized on the need to promote the young talent and requested the film industry, the media and the corporate world to invest and support the young film makers
He pointed out that Waar had also earned a great respect for artists and filmmakers, calling for the need to continue this initiative and join hands together by forgetting our petty issues and difference. He said that we should support Pakistan. He said he saw the real fusion of the film industry the day young Bilal Lashari and the renowned Syed Noor would work together.
The renowned film director said that he knew that this day would come, the day when we would beat the Indians.
Ghulam Mohiuddin, the veteran film artist maintained that the dream seldom came true but today the entire nation had been made proud by these young men with Waar which had really made our dreams come true. If we continued the work with the same spirit, we would soon be standing shoulder to shoulder with Hollywood too, he said.
This get-together certainly became one of the most memorable events in the recent years since it brought the great Pakistani film industry icons and the young filmmakers under one roof which included directors Aslam Dar, Iqbal Kashmiri, Shehzad Rafique, Syed Noor, Ali Sofiyan Afaqi, Altaf Hussain, Pervaiz Kaleem, Bahar Begum, among other big names.
