Action against road encroachments soon: Nazim

January 23, 2007

KARACHI: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that encroachments on all major roads will be removed without any discrimination.

He expressed these views on Sunday after inaugurating the Martin Road, PIB Colony, which was constructed at a cost of Rs41.3 million. The city Nazim said that over 70 per cent of the 3000-feet long road had been encroached upon and only a narrow lane had been left, making it difficult for fire engines and ambulances to enter the area during any untoward situation. Now there would be no encroachment on the road, he added.

He said that the anti-encroachment operation would also be carried out at Patel Para, where thousands of auto-rickshaws have encroached upon the major part of the road. He mentioned that the city government had already demolished 26 illegal shops and boundary walls of over 40 houses along roadsides, which had been encroached upon, creating hurdles for smooth traffic flow.
