Breach in Jamrao canal inundates several villages

SUKKUR: A 200-wide breach inundated many villages and the authorises failed to repair it even after the passage of 12 hours.
The sources said that a 50-feet wide breach developed into Jamrao Canal at RD-168 near Maqsoodo Rind area of Sanghar district. Breach within minutes widened to 200 feet. Villagers made announcements to alert people to evacuate their homes and leave for safer places.
The water filled and over flowed LBOD Saline Nullah which caused two breaches in to spinal drain which created panic and fear.As many as 10 villages including Wallio Baghrani, Bachal Hingoro, Ali Bakhsh Shah, Ramzan Lakho and others submerged besides seasonal crops were also inundated. Villagers started to migrate towards safer Places along with their households.
The sources said that angry villagers protested against the irrigation officials. Villagers said that they had informed the irrigation authorities that water level in a canal was rising and they feared a flood but the authorities did not pay attention to their complaint.
