‘Bahawalpur province revival a conspiracy’

November 29, 2011
Federal Minister for Textile and PPP south Punjab president Makhdoom Shahabuddin has said the people attempting to revive Bahawalpur province are, in fact, hatching conspiracy against South Punjab.
Talking to the media at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, here on Monday, he said that formation of South Punjab as a separate province was the demand of the people.
To a question about Nawaz Sharif’s statement of reviving Bahawalpur province, he said the people with proper understanding had started realizing the deprivation and disparities being committed by the Punjab government. “One can easily understand the fact that Lahore’s annual development budget is 10 times higher than that of the total ADP allocated for southern Punjab,” he said.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi was questioning the security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets now when he was no more a foreign minister, he said. Why he had not uttered his reservations while he was in the officer, he asked.
To another query, the federal minister said that many renowned politicians had parted ways with the PPP but all of them had lost their political ovation and popularity. “Qureshi will also meet the same fate,” predicted he.
Qureshi’s joining of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) would not do any miracle, as he(Qureshi) and PTI chairman Imran Khan would turn out to be losers in the next general election, he responded to a questioner.
Shahab claimed that Qureshi’s public meeting at Ghotki was not a parameter to gauge his success in future, because he, as a spiritual leader, had mobilized his devotees to join that gathering, while many of the participants were sent by Pir Pagara, head of the PML (Functional).
When asked about the Nato attack, he said Pakistan and the US were jointly investigating the issue. The federal government had suspended the NATO’s supplies through Pakistan and also issued notice to the US authorities for evacuation of Shamsi Airbase, he added.
