MIRAMSHAH: A grand jirga of Utmanzai tribe here Thursday expressed concern over the closure of 180 health centres in North Waziristan and threatened to stage protests outside the Governor House and Fata Secretariat in Peshawar if the facilities were not restored within 10 days.
Speaking at a grand jirga here, dozens of Utmanzai tribal elders protested the closure of the health centres in the militancy-torn North Waziristan.
Tribal elders including Malik Atta Mohammad Wazir, Malik Abdul Samad Khan, Malik Ameer Nawaz, Malik Zayari Gul, Malik Wakil Khan and Malik Jehanzeb complained that instead of providing better health care to the people, the government closed the existing facilities.
They complained the government was making life difficult for them and vowed to resist closure of the 180 health centres.
The protesting elders said they would hold a jirga with the political agent North Waziristan on January 24 and inform him about the resentment among the people.

“No fire brigade and civil defence workers arrived at the site till the fire completely burnt down the truck,” Aminullah, owner of the truck, told reporters.
