LAHORE: Various ceremonies were held in the provincial capital in which PPP members paid rich tribute to slain party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto on the eve of her third death anniversary on Monday.
The PPP members also held Quran Khawani and prayed for Benazir Bhutto and other martyred leaders of the party who laid down their lives in the struggle against dictatorship. Quran Khawani was held at the Governor’s House in which Governor Salman Taseer and a large number of party activists participated.
Addressing the ceremony, Taseer said Benazir Bhutto was the leader of a global stature and the effects of the December 27 tragedy were felt not only in Pakistan but in the entire world where business and economy faced severe setbacks.
He said there was no denying the fact that the country faced its worst circumstances when Liaquat Bagh tragedy occurred but President Asif Ali Zardari chanted the slogan of Pakistan’s stability in the interest of democracy and federation.
The governor went on to say that the PPP government was committed to dealing with all the challenges and it would complete its constitutional term. He further said that the PPP would also win the 2013 election on the basis of public power and it would form government again.
Taseer said that no other family had rendered so much sacrifices as the Bhuttos had done, adding that the PPP was the legacy of Bhuttos. He said it was Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who gave identity to the poor who became his voice to spread the message of the PPP in every nook and corner of the country. He said it was the vision of ZAB which brought the PPP into power for six times.
Salman Taseer further said that if BB were alive, the situation faced by the country would have not been that tough. Another ceremony was held at the residence of central leader of party and Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board Asif Hashmi in which a large number of PPP activists and many disabled persons participated.
Addressing the ceremony, Syed Asif Hashmi said the democracy in the country was the result of unprecedented struggle of BB who followed the footmarks of her father and kept fighting against usurpers till the end of her life. He said the PPP was committed empowering the masses and for the purpose, it would also initiate the employment scheme for the poor next year.
He said the country once again needed Bhuttoism as the philosophy of Bhutto provided solution to address the prevailing problems. The ceremony was also attended by Syed Faraz Hashmi advocate, Mian Munir Ahmed, Rai Muzammil, Omar Sharif Bokhari and Salim Malik. Peoples Labour Bureau Punjab organized an event of the Quran Khawani in which members of the LB including Malik Ehtesham, Salim Mughal, Sikandar Shah and Ashraf Khan participated.
