Failure to arrest killers of professor
College staff, students take out rally against police

BAHAWALPUR: Hundreds of lecturers, professors and students of the Government Postgraduate College, Bahawalpur, on Friday took out a rally against the police for their failure to arrest the killers of Prof Hafiz Anwar Nadeem despite the passage of three months.
The protesters led by Principal Prof Humayun Kabeer reached One Unit Chowk after marching through different roads where they staged a sit-in. The protesting students were holding placards and banners. They were also chanting slogans against the police. Addressing the protesters, Principal Humayun Kabeer and Prof Ahmad Hassan alleged that the police were reluctant to arrest the accused despite registering a case against them. He warned the district administration and the police of going on strike till the indefinite period if the killers were not arrested immediately. They said that it was their peaceful protest and if the killers were not arrested then their protest would not remain peaceful. Professor Hafiz Anwar Nadeem was brutally murdered on August 14.

Man confesses to killing beloved, her minor son

BAHAWALPUR: A man has confessed to killing a beloved and her seven-year-old son.
According to details, Hafeezan Bibi of Chak 37/BC and her son Ahsan had disappeared some 20 days ago. The Abbasnagar police had arrested Irshad of the same village on suspicion three days ago. During interrogation, the accused confessed to killing Hafeezan and her son Ahsan and throwing her bodies in Ahmadpur Branch Canal. The accused said that he had developed illicit relations with Hafeezan Bibi and swindled her of gold ornaments. When Hafeezan demanded her valuables, Irshad called her to his house and killed her and her son.
It is worth mentioning that the Samasatta police had found the body of an unidentified woman from a canal 10 days ago. Now, it has confirmed that the body was of Hafeezan. However, the body of Ahsan is yet to be recovered.

Three murdered in as many incidents

BAHAWALPUR: Three people, including an old woman, were murdered in as many incidents here on Thursday night.
In the first incident, trader Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry of Bahawalnagar was present at his business centre on Arifwala Road when his relative gangster Saifullah came there and allegedly shot him dead over an old enmity. The Bahawalnagar City police arrested the accused on Friday.
In the second incident, unidentified people entered the house of an 85-year-old woman at Mohallah Qazian and strangled her after robbing her of gold ornaments. The Kotwali police are investigating.
In the third incident, two unidentified people tired to enter the house of Ghulam Sarwar but his son offered resistance to them. This infuriated them and they gunned down the house owner’s. The police are investigating.
