Flood victims attempt self-immolation

SUKKUR: Hundreds of flood-affected people staged protests and took out rallies in various parts of the Upper Sindh on Friday after the Watan Cards had not been issued to them while rations were also not distributed.
Three flood victims even attempted self immolation while one was shot dead by guards. Reports said there were demos in various areas of Shikarpur, Kandhkot, Khairpur and Nathan Shah.
The victims alleged that Watan Cards were being issued to political favourites and the names of flood-stricken people were not included in the lists. They alleged that police were humiliating them at the Watan Card Centres.
There was also scarcity of food in the relief camps and the victims were starving. Meanwhile, the protest of the flood victims in the Saghyoon relief camp turned violent as there was severe scarcity of food.
They alleged that the district government of Khairpur had stopped food distribution and supply of ration to the people at the camps. Three flood victims even attempted self immolation but were rescued by citizens. Meanwhile, guards opened fire when flood victims attempted to snatch ration during distribution in the relief camp of Shikarpur. The firing left one flood victim Ishaq Brohi dead.
