Rawalpindi: The Department of English at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised an inter-department debates in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the Allama Iqbal Shield.
The topics for debate in English were ‘Money speaks sense in a language all nations understand’ and ‘Honesty is the best policy when there is no money in it’, while the topics for Urdu debate were ‘Joh meray hoontoon sey lafz niklay’ and ‘Agar milti mujh ko do din ki baadshahi aey doost’.
In English debate, Roshan Zahra, a student of the Department of English, got first prize. Mariam Tufail, a student of Bachelors in Computer Arts, got second prize. Ayesha Khaliq, a student of Bachelors in Computer Arts, got first prize in Urdu debate. Samra Iftikhar, a student of Department of English, got second prize in this category.
Dr. Sarwat Rasul, in-charge of the student activities, organised the event. Dr. Shamim Zaidi, chairperson of the Communication & Media Studies, and Ayesha Usmani, in-charge of the Islamic Studies Department, were the judges for Urdu debates. Fareena Iqbal, in-charge of the QEC & BCA, and Qamar Khushi, assistant professor at the Department of English were the judges for English debate.
Dr. Shamim Zaidi distributed shields among the winners and appreciated them for their efforts.
