Child dies of measles in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: A one-year-old girl child has died of measles while dozens of other kids have been hospitalized in Landikotal, officials said. Political tehsildar, Landikotal, Shamsul Islam, told The News that one year-old, Javeria, lost her life as she was found infected with measles. He said eight patients were bought to Landikotal Agency Headquarters Hospital. The official said the staff had administered anti-measles vaccine to 733 children in Shalman areas of Landikotal. He said Health teams had been constituted on the directives of Assistant Political Agent Niaz Muhammad. The official said several teams led by agency surgeon were sent to Shalman area which conducted door-to-door campaign in Loey and Kam Shalman, the far-flung areas of the agency. He said a medical camp would be arranged in the remote Shalman areas to vaccinate the residents.

The official said the matter had been brought into the notice of Khyber Agency Political Agent Khalid Mehmood.
