Over 300 Jhang villages hit by flood

JHANG: Faisalabad Division Commissioner Tahir Hussain has said timely response of the district administration to control the flood situation in the district was the main reason for minimising the flood loss.
In the first phase, with the financial assistance of local business community, the DCO provided cooked food to the flood victims and now dry food parcels were being provided to the affected people, desired by Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
Talking to people during the inspection of 18-Hazari flood safety walls here on Thursday, DCO Muhammad Shahid Niaz, DDO-R Jhang Sajjad Zafar Gondal, DDO-R 18-Hazari, Secretary Red Crescent Jhang Riaz Javed, media people and officials concerned were with the commissioner.
While giving briefing to the media, DCO Shahid Niaz said more than 300 villages of the district Jhang have been affected and crops cultivated on 27,860 acres were damaged and 2,126 houses demolished hit by the floodwater.
He said more than 10,000 people were successfully evacuated from the flooded areas by hiring sufficient numbers of boats and 18 relief camps practically provided services in flood affected localities. DCO Shahid Niaz appreciated the financial assistance of social worker Umer Khan, who provided cooked food and diesel for boats to rescue the flood victims. Commissioner Tahir Hussain lauded the efforts of DCO Jhang and his team to tackle the disaster within limited resources.
