LAHORE
Jamat-e-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that supremacy of the judiciary will be established with the restoration of deposed judges, including Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, at all costs.
By turning the whole country into a jail, President Asif Zardari has admitted to defeat. Long march could not be stopped with such tactics and Asif will be responsible for whatever materialises now, he said addressing the general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Saturday.
Qazi said holding peaceful rallies was people’s democratic right and government’s illegal actions, including imposition of section 144, would not become a hurdle in the long march which will be staged at every cost.
Qazi said to do justice is the commandment of Almighty Allah and it is every Muslim’s religious duty to strive to get justice. He said Asif Ali Zardari was a product of NRO that’s why he did not want to restore the judiciary as he (Zardari) himself was not inclined to face justice.
He said judges with integrity were needed to ensure independence of judiciary. He said Justice Iftikhar did not bow before a dictator which is a debt and now every citizen should rise for restoration of deposed chief justice.
He praised lawyers for their long struggle, saying he was impressed by their commitment to their cause. He said the government and the establishment could not bear people’s pressure for more than two days and ultimately they will have to accept their demands.
He said that his party did not take part in general election as protest against the policies of Gen (r) Musharraf and it did not regret this decision. He said the JI would take part in the long march with all its might as it was in the national interest.
He condemned the government’s threat to Nawaz Sharif. He said Nawaz was fighting for a national cause and would not be affected by cowardly acts of Zardari-led government.
He said the decision to allow Basant was a malicious move aimed at diverting people’s attention from long march and dharna.
LHCBA President Justice (r) MA Shahid Siddiqui, vice president Munawar Iqbal Gondal and Secretary Muqtadir Akhter Shabbir thanked the JI leader for his support to lawyers’ movement.
The general house also adopted resolution condemning the arrest of lawyers in various parts of the country and ban on media.
