KARACHI: The governing body of Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA) met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Advisor Local Government Waseem Akhtar and passed Rs63.517 million budget for the fiscal year 2006-07.

According to the budget, Rs21.2 million will be spent on low cost houses. Under this “cheap settlement” project, some 5000 people would be provided housing facilities alongwith the basic amenities in Karachi, Dadu, Gharo, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Thatta and Khairpur.

The governing body approved Rs4.4 million for water supply and sewerage schemes and it was informed that this year a model Katchi Abadi will be

constructed on modern lines with award of lease to the

allottees. For this purpose Essa Goth in Federal B Area was

      selected.

In the beginning, the residents will be shifted to a multi-storeyed building to make room for construction of a park, school, hospital, play ground and later houses will be constructed under the plan. After successful completion of this project, similar development programmes will be launched in other settlements.

The meeting decided that before the start of formal development and construction work, coordination committees headed by Nazims of 23 districts, will be setup for the purpose of removal of encroachments and other

      hurdles.

Waseem, in this regard, issued directives to concerned organisations, especially to DCOs for liaison between Board of Revenue and Irrigation department for land demarcation.
