Finance records seized as ACE raids Qatar Hospital

Ledgers containing two-year records of financial transactions, procurements, appointments and promotions were seized by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) as its investigators raided Qatar Hospital under the supervision of a judicial magistrate in Orangi Town on Monday.
According to the ACE officials, as only evidences were being collected to inspect alleged discrepancies, hence no person from the hospital administration was arrested or taken into custody.
On December 2, the ACE raided four hospitals in a day in which two staffers of the Lyari General Hospital were arrested. The store in-charge and store keeper of Lyari General Hospital were arrested on charges of issuing expired medicines to needy patients, said ACE Sindh director Nazar Bozdar.
He said store incharge Muhammad Akbar and storekeeper Khursheed Ahmed were issuing counterfeit and expired medicine, despite being fully aware of the consequences of the consumption of expired and counterfeit medicine by patients.
He said both accused were being grilled for their crime and for information of the possible involvement of other higher officials, since there were reports of misappropriation of funds and other irregularities at the hospital.
Aseparate team of ACE West zone raided the Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi and seized records of procurement, purchase and availability of medicines, surgical items, consumables and expenditure.
Bozdar said the raid was conducted to probe the allegations of misappropriations of funds, illegal appointments and postings.
Similarly, another team of ACE officials raided the the Sindh Government Hospital Korangi No.2 and seized record and of procurement and appointments from the hospital.
Bozdar confirmed that the ACE team of East Zone raided the hospital and confiscated record and important files, while the availability of medicines, equipment and surgical items were also tallied with records.
Yet another health facility to witness action was the Sindh Government Hospital Baldia Town from where besides its records of procurement, documents of tenders issued were also confiscated.
However, Bozdar said, no official or staffer from the Sindh government hospitals in New Karachi, Korangi No. 2 and Baldia Town was arrested. He said the officials can be summoned for recording their statements if required.
Since October, the ACE has raided several hospitals in the city including the Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatbad and Government Valika Hospital SITE.
