Gas harmony

I visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recently and was pleasantly surprised to observe that there was no gas shortage and all CNG stations were supplied gas round-the-clock. The situation in Rawalpindi is that in areas where the elite and top government officials reside, either there is no shortage of gas or gas loadshedding starts after 9pm in the night and lasts till 6am in the morning. But those areas where poor people live, gas is available to them no more than twice a week and that too at very odd hours. This is criminal negligence and poor governance.

When gas was discovered in Sui in the 1950s, the whole country benefited from it except Balochistan. So in a way we are all indebted to Balochistan for our development. Likewise, the KP government should display magnanimity and help other provinces overcome acute gas shortage instead of running CNG stations. We should share our resources to forge unity and harmony.

The people of Mianwali have been experiencing 16-hours a day gas loadshedding. This prolonged gas outage is causing unrest among them. We have no gas from 11am to 5pm and from 8pm to 6am. The local office of the SNGPL gives no reason for this beastly loadshedding, which started about a month ago.

In response to an MPA’s inquiry, the regional manager said it would end ‘soon’. He failed to give any specific date in this regard. Will the government do something before the situation gets out of control?
