KHAIRPUR: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah denied that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was operating in the province.
He stated this while talking to the media and addressing to foundation stone laying ceremony of the academic block and mosque at the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Campus of the Mehran Engineering University here on Sunday.
The chief minister said that Daish does not exist in Sindh. The law and order situation has improved in Karachi while it is under control in other parts of the province. He said that ourforces were alert as the army, Rangers and police had played an exemplary role in eliminating terrorists. They had rendered sacrifices for maintaining peace, he added.
Talking about the education sector, he said that 45,000 primary schools are functioning in Sindh. The monthly salary of a primary teacher had been increased from Rs15,000 to 40,000. He urged the teachers to discharge their duties with dedication.
Shah said that an engineering campus has been set up in Khairpur and hoped that it will be upgraded to university level in future as per the wishes of the locals. He vowed to carry out development in all the cities and villages of the province, including Mithi, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Jacobabad and Sukkur. A state-of-the-art hospital has been established in Jacobabad with US cooperation. He said that such hospitals will also be built in other districts.
According to the population census, he added, Khairpur was the largest district of Sindh in area. He said that we want to see development in all sectors including agriculture. The chief minister said that growers had been complaining of a shortage of canal water and pledged to overcome the crisis so that the agri economy can be strengthened.
The chief minister said that municipal departments will be delegated the required powers after the completion of all phases of the LG elections. Speaking on the occasion, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Engineering Campus Pro-Vice Chancellor Engineer Ghulam Sarwar said that the chief minister had turned Khairpur into an education city.
