I have enjoyed the last few issues of Us very much, especially the cover stories. One story that was actually very relevant to people my age who cannot afford private colleges was ‘Skills that develop a nation’ by Muhammad Omar Iftikhar (July 15). I wanted to write earlier but was busy with family weddings, so here is my two cents about it: I believe professional education is very expensive and there are so many who are not smart enough to become professionals. For our youth, learning skills is a must to survive. I think in your ‘Career Counselling’ segment, you should regularly publish articles on skills development to make the youth aware of the benefits of learning skills.

I read Eid Engagement and Other Weddings regularly and I absolutely like Iqra Asad’s style of writing dialogues, but I think there should be more action. I don’t like it when the entire episode is about mobile conversations only, like in episode 37. One great thing about episode 37 is that the siblings, Hina and Ray, are finally communicating with each other. It feels good to see Ray supporting his sister at the crucial moment when she has to decide whether she should marry Sameer or not. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

First of all, since Independence Day is just around the corner, I would like to wish a very happy Independence Day to fellow Us readers and Team Us. May we all become good citizens and make our country proud.
I just want to say one thing to the readers of Us: I know you all want to celebrate 14 August by hoisting flags on your rooftops and decorating your houses with buntings, but please make sure that these buntings don’t end up on roads to be trampled upon by pedestrians. I think instead of buying flags we should help the poor by giving them at least 1 kg wheat from whatever we get as pocket money.

‘Healthy late night snacks’ in this week’s issue (5 August) was good, but I have to say something: there is nothing healthy about snacking late in the night! Understanding this well, I couldn’t keep myself from trying banana bites and they were awesome! I didn’t try midnight cookies’ recipe because I am not into baking, so please instead of complex recipes, give us easy to make recipes.

The Prophet (S.A.W) said, “The example of him (a believer) who recites the Qur’an is like that of a citron which tastes good and smells good. And he (a believer) who does not recite the Qur’an is like a date which is good in taste but has no smell. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who recites the Qur’an is like the Raihana (sweet basil) which smells good but tastes bitter. And the example of a dissolute wicked person who does not recite the Qur’an is like the colocynth which tastes bitter and has no smell.
