KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday confirmed that Opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly and PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh was arrested from Lahore on the complaint of the Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).

Haleem Adil Sheikh was taken into custody by policemen in civvies from a Lahore hotel in the wee hours of Wednesday (today), said his spokesperson.

Talking to media outside the Sindh Assembly, Sharjeel Memon said that Haleem Adil Sheikh was nominated in several cases.

“Nobody is above the law,” he maintained.

Several cases are registered against the leaders of PTI and its allied parties, he said, adding, “The law will take its own course.”

Replaying a question, the minister said that the PTI leader will be released if the court finds the cases against him false.

Speaking on the occasion, Memon warned Imran Khan against maligning the institutions. Lashing out at the PTI, the minister said that Imran Khan was hurling threats just to regain government.

Meanwhile, the ACE authorities said that a case has been registered against Sheikh at the anti-corruption police station in Jamshoro on the behalf of ACE circle officer Zeshan Hyder Memon.

On July 6, the Sindh home department wrote a letter to the Punjab government and requested the authorities to arrest the PTI leader over his alleged involvement in the corruption cases, they added.

Taking action on the letter, the authorities arrested Sheikh in Lahore.

Men in civvies detain Haleem Adil

Earlier in the morning, Haleem Adil Sheikh was taken into custody by policemen in civvies from a Lahore hotel, said his spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that Haleem Sheikh had been taken into custody from a hotel in the provincial capital where he had reached a day earlier.

Taking to Twitter, the PTI leader's daughter confirmed that "He [Haleem Adil Sheikh] was picked up from his hotel in Lahore at 3:30 am by men in civilian clothing, we have no idea where he is right now or if he is safe!"

The CCTV footage being shared on social media shows a double-cabin car pulled over outside the hotel. Plain clothes men entered the hotel and took Sheikh away with them.

Condemning the PTI leader's detention, former governor of Sindh Imran Ismail had said the detention is not being revealed anywhere.

"It is feared that criminals in the Sindh government have abducted him," he had asserted.

He had also warned that the Sindh government would be responsible if Haleem was harmed in any way whatsoever.
