While the party aims to hold demonstrations in all major cities, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will be flying to Karachi on Saturday, February 6, to lead a protest rally against the planned privatisation of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and inadequate POL price cuts.
A press conference in this regard was held at the Insaf House on Wednesday, where PTI leaders Asad Umar and Ali Zaidi vehemently condemned the fatal clash between protesters and law enforcers a day earlier and spoke in detail about the party’s concerns over the privatisation plan.
“It is the constitutional right of every citizen to protest and the PTI stands with the PIA workers and supports their legal and genuine demands,” said Umar, vowing that the party would do everything in its power to protect the PIA employees’ rights.
He said the matter could have been handled much better and a well-thought out strategy could have averted Tuesday’s tragic events. However, Umar added, that injustice had been meted out to the demonstrators and called for a prompt and credible investigation by a superior court judge to probe the fatal shootings.
The senior PTI leader advised the government to use its good offices to mediate between the PIA employees and get the matter amicably resolved at the earliest.
