KARACHI: Mohammad Ahmed of Punjab registered twin victories on the third day of the eighth edition of the National Under-21 Snooker Championship 2016 here on Thursday.
After edging out Muzammil Khan of Sindh 3-2 in the morning session during which he compiled breaks of 65 and 55, he overcame Hashir Siddique of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3-1 in the afternoon, wrapping up the issue with a fluent break of 55.
Punjab’s Haris Tahir, who had compiled three breaks in the excess of 40 on the opening day before chalking up the first century break of the competition on the very next day, extended his brilliant form as he routed Adil, also from Punjab, in straight frames to make it three victories in a row.
Top seed Abdul Javaid of Punjab also recorded his third win in as many games. He toppled Maaz Abdul Samad in straight frames.
A total of 36 cueists, divided in six groups for the preliminary rounds, are taking part in the event whose league matches will continue for two more days.
The top three cueists from each group will advance to the knockout phase of the tournament, which will conclude on February 3.
