The model of the solar plane was designed at UMT and named as “Shams One”

LAHORE ( JAN 25 ) Can you believe Pakistan has successfully manufactured a solar airplane? Already a nuclear power, the nation is rapidly moving towards technological revolution. The model of solar plane has been designed in the University of Management and Technology (UMT) where two young students Abdul Matten and Syed Muhammad Junaid from the School of Engineering worked on the idea all year long. “At first we did not succeed in our goal, the first experience failed but, we did not lose our heart and kept on working”, they said with a determination. When asked if the prototype of the model could be transformed into the jumbo plane, the young men said “The experience is 100% success and there is dead sure that real airplane just like “Solar Impulse” could easily be built.

The airplane has been named as “Shams One” and it can fly day and night, without any fuel, only using solar energy stored in its single battery. The model can go into the air for hours wide and could remain there for more than eight hours but, since it is small, it becomes invisible after 1000 ft. At the present moment, the airplane is installed through a remote control (RC) that could be expanded but the real plane would be controlled through satellite and Radar.***
