Solid waste management soon

KARACHI: The tannery cluster at the Korangi industrial area will soon have a solid waste management system to clear dumps and hazardous waste, a senior official said.

Managing Director Roshan Ali Shaikh at the Solid Waste Management Board, Sindh, in a meeting with the representatives of the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), said there are various ongoing and upcoming solid waste projects for Karachi.

Shaikh said businessmen will also be included in the solid waste management board.

Chairman Rehan Hannan at PTA told the MD about the zone’s importance.

Hannan said the industrial area is the largest national cluster of Pakistan, contributing millions of rupees in taxes every month to national exchequer.

Chairman (central) Gulzar Firoz at PTA said industrialists are running the combined effluent treatment plant with their own resources.
